My husband experienced the same thing every now and then for the past 10 years. After the incident became worse and worse, he went to the doctor. After an MRI, he found out that he had a herniated disc that had to be fixed surgically. Never underestimate any injury to your neck. If you're in doubt - get it checked out.

yup! I am seeing the chiropractor on Monday. Will try the tractioning thing later (eating dinner right now!).

My neck is already starting to feel better. Only thing I am worried about is this becoming a regular occurance. Has happened twice in the past 6 months...and I've never had anything like this happen before. Do you think it could be bad posture at work that is making me more suceptible?

Rav-man,

See your chiropractor to have your neck assessed and adjusted ...or... mozy on down to PDX and I'll pop that puppy back into place.

Simply tractioning your neck could help too. Since you're doing yoga, try this:
Do a forward bend with a wide stance. Bend your knees deeply. Lace your fingers behind your head. Adjust your weight as needed and relax.
(I've found that this helps to correct minor misalignments in my neck. )
