Being truthful lifts an incredible burden off of your shoulders. For starters, you don’t have to worry about telling people something, and then having to remember what you told them. The truth is the truth and you don’t need to try to remember it.

When you are truthful you also begin to shatter the false fronts that you put up around yourself. The personas that you had a part in creating, and now work so hard – and worry so much – to keep up. When you are truthful you end up really being yourself. It is liberating.

It isn’t all rosy however, like ripping a band-aid off a wound, there may be a little pain at first as you begin to dissolve the world you know that is build on falsehoods (no matter how small those falsehoods might be). You may have a habit of embellishing your stories to appear smarter, stronger, funnier, wealthier than you really are. Stopping that behavior will hurt your ego. But is that really such a bad thing? Everyone’s ego’s could use a kick in the but every now and then.

At the end of the day, there is nothing worse than living in a jail of our own making. Stop manufacturing lies today (no matter how small!) and you will begin to discover a  new-found freedom that was there all along – just covered up with a few little lies and half-truths!
